Kalwawa Biggest Loser Contest

The 2011 Kalwawa Biggest Loser Contest came to an official end on Sunday April 10th. We would like to congratulate all participants for their efforts as they all proved to be "losers" by their deadlines.

However, the winner's title went to Cristina Espasa of Clark, NJ. With an astounding xxxx percentage weight loss, he surely proved to be this year's Biggest Loser. Congratulations to Cristina!!

Cristina was closely followed by our Second Place winner, Mark Ponek, also of Clark, NJ. Mark's strong dedication payed off with an impressive xxx percentage weight loss. Congratulations to you too Mark!!

How do they do that?

Mark attributes his triumph to drinking lots of water, taking lunch to work from home, didn't eat past 8p and eliminated alcohol.

Cristina accounts her success to her dedication to the contest. She exercised six times a week, limited going out to dinners, and took it one day at a time.

Once again, thank you to all the participants and congratulations to our winners. And to all our followers who may be interested in healthy competitive weight loss, we hope to see you on our next weigh in for the fall of this year!! Be on the look out for our website alerts!!

Miss Chiquitita

Eliana MacNamee is this year's Miss Chiquitita Talent Contest Winner. Her family, friends and all of us who went to cheer for her are so very happy and proud of this very talented and amazingly brave little girl.

There were three components to the contest. Eliana wore the traditional costume of Tobas for the first component. She marveled the crowd and judges with a Morenada song and comedic sketch, supported by her brother and cousins, for the talent component. And she elegantly modeled a beautiful spring dress for the formal dress component. Eliana won a cash prize of $200.00 and will participate in this year's Desfile Boliviano de la Costa Este on Saturday, August 6, 2011 in downtown Jersey City.

Eliana is an eight-year-old third grader from Union, NJ. She is of Bolivian and Irish heritage and both her parents, Rosemary Tapia and Steven Mcnamee, are very supportive of her performing abilities. Eliana does very well academically, receiving excellent grades, and is a very active child with interests in Tae Kwon Do (red belt!), gymnastics, cheerleading and specially the performing arts. She is part of the Kalawawa Kids dance troop, having performed Tinkus recently in her school's talent show and Cueca Chaquena in a past latino festival. She is very humorous and a loving sister to her brothers Nicholas and Donovan.

Congratulations Eliana!!!
